Lifeboat supporters in buoyant mood

Seaton, Beer and District RNLI branch raises more than £40,000 in 2014
Volunteers and supporters have been praised for helping Seaton, Beer and District Branch of the RNLI raise more than £40,000 in the past year.
Sales of £32,800 were achieved at the kiosk in Beer, with a further £2,100 raised on the group’s stall at local events. The fundraising total from collections, donations and events for the year was £11,229.
Donations were received from Beer Luggers Club and Beer Congregational Church at their Harvest of the Sea Service.
Branch secretary Wendy Cummins said the many highlights in 2014 included manning the Grizzly Race drink station in March and receiving a £700 donation from the Axe Valley Runners, the 12-hour music marathon at Winstons’, that raised £1,111.02 and Beer Lifeboat Week which raised a total of £1,600. The Axe Yacht Club open weekend in August raised £1,117.46 plus £337.45 from the sale of RNLI Christmas Cards and RNLI Souvenirs.
The branch was represented at Seaton Carnival and received a donation of £150. The annual sponsored walk in October raised £438 and the Christmas collection on Friday, December 19, at Tesco, Seaton, raised £489.45.
Said Mrs Cummins: “Looking forward to 2015, we are seeking a new volunteer retail shop manager for our sales kiosk in Beer, as our much valued Audrey Tims will be retiring at our AGM in March.
