Towns across the area aim to attract visitors and residents alike into the shopping areas with their Christmas lights.

The illuminations can be the result of fundraising efforts by members of the community by the likes of Light Up Axminster, or the Honiton Christmas Lights Committee.

But over the years, the area has seen the streets lit up with a multitude of colours, and, of course, these are not just restricted to the town centres.

Many residents love to brighten up the exteriors of their own properties by adding to the festive feel with lights and decorations.

Image curator Alex Walton has been looking through the archives to see how our streets have been decorated in previous years.
