Honiton’s Admiral Nurse campaign has welcomed another financial boost.

Honiton Tesco and the town’s Lions club have worked together to donate £500 to the campaign, which is aiming to raise £150,000 to bring an Admiral Nurse to Honiton and surrounding areas.

Lions Barry Warner, John Ward and Brian Richards presented a cheque to store manager Ian Carvell and community manager Duncan Sheridan-Shaw.

Mr Sheridan-Shaw said: “As community manager, I have had a long and productive relationship with the Honiton Dementia Action Alliance.

“We have supported them and the works they do for many years now. When I, along with our store manager, Ian Carvell, were asked to join the Admiral Nurse Campaign Steering Group we jumped at the chance.

“We are proud and honoured to be involved. It’s not every Tesco that has a unique opportunity to help so many of its customers first-hand.

“When the Lions came to us with a cheque for £500 for our charity we instantly knew the best place for it to go. Obtaining an Admiral Nurse for Honiton will help so many people, those who are on any stage of their dementia journey, friends, families and community.

“The opportunity to invest in, support and maintain a relationship with an Admiral Nurse gives people suffering from dementia a reassurance that Tesco Honiton will always be a place to shop safely with colleagues who have a vested interest in their local community.”

The Lions raised the money from holding several collections at the town’s Tesco store.

Campaigners are now gearing up to support a fundraising art auction being held at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG) in Honiton soon. The artworks are currently on display at THG in the run up to the auction, which will take place on Friday, March 2, at 7pm, led by auctioneers Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood.

Funds raised will go to the Admiral Nurse and the gallery’s learning programme supporting those with dementia and mental health issues.

THG’s Fiona Page-Turner said: “The auction promises to be an exciting opportunity to acquire an artwork to help two exceptional causes.”
