Poll will be held on August 17 if the vacant seat is contested

Candidates are being invited to put their name forward to become a councillor in Lyme Regis.

An election will be held to fill a vacancy on the town council following a request signed by 10 electors.

West Dorset District Council published notice of an election on Wednesday, June 21 and has called for nominations.

Forms are available online from the Electoral Commission website, from the district council, or from the town council.

The deadline for nominations is 4pm on Friday, July 21.

If there is more than one candidate, an election will be held on Thursday, August 17

For this election, there will be only one polling station at the Woodmead Halls.

The district council is considering changing to one polling station permanently in Lyme Regis and hopes this election will provide an opportunity to obtain feedback from electors for future elections.

The seat on the town council became vacant following the resignation of Cllr Daryl Turner – the town’s county councillor.
