NHS chiefs have backed out of an agreement to attend a public meeting in Honiton to answer questions about the future of maternity services.
The meeting, however, will go ahead as planned - to give campaigners a chance to have their say.
It will be held in the Mackarness Hall at 7pm on Friday (April 16).
Honiton Town Council, which organised the meeting, heard on Monday that NHS Devon blamed the election purdah for pulling out.
After initially agreeing to answer written questions, it gave the same reason for not being able to answer them.
Councillor Vernon Whitlock will chair the meeting, which has been called to examine fears that post-natal care at Honiton Community Hospital is set to be downgraded.
