Rescue services stood down after it was discovered man was pracicising capsize drills

Emergency services were scrambled on Friday when a kayaker was reported to be in difficulty off Lyme Regis.

A member of the public called coastguard to say the man appeared to have become separated from his craft and was struggling in the surf just in front of the Bay Hotel.

Lyme Regis RNLI Inshore Lifeboat and local coastguards were sent to the scene but upon arrival it was quickly established that the kayaker was making the most of the rough conditions practising capsize drills and was not in a life threatening situation or in need of assistance.
