Dorset police said they were trying to contact the next of kin and that examinations were being done at Dorset County Hospital.
Forensic teams were at Staples Terrace all day yesterday, with a police guard outside the address.
Police said they were still treating the death as 'unexplained'.
Although a major police operation appears to be under way in Lyme Regis, detectives have been careful to be as discreet as possible - to reassure residents and not to increase the fear of crime.
