Six times mayor Barbara Austin, MBE, dies aged 80.

The woman widely regarded as the “First Lady” of Lyme Regis has died.

Barbara Austin was mayor of the resort six times and was a stalwart worker for local charities and worthy causes.

She died in Dorchester Hospital on Saturday, aged 80.

Cllr Austin was awarded the MBE for her community work in 2010.

She was the widow of the late Norman Austin and is survived by her five children Jane, Richard, David, Kerry and Adam.

The funeral service will be held at St Michael’s Parish Church on Thursday, January 10, at 11am.

Family flowers only are requested but donations may be given, in lieu, to the Over 70s Christmas Lunch Fund or the Christmas Lights Fund at the service or to funeral directors W G Potter, William Potter House, 5 West Street, Axminster. EX13 5NX
