THE future of Lyme Regis post office has been secured following the sale of the building.

The Post Office counter and retail business is to remain in its present location.

Owners David and Muriel Gilbert have confirmed the sale and the buyer hopes to create a small retail complex, which will be named 'The Village'.

Sub-postmaster Les Gilbert said: "This is extremely exciting news that should secure the long term future of the Post Office in Lyme Regis.

"We will occupy a smaller part of the building and as a result have significantly lower overheads. We will not have to meet the cost of an expensive relocation and can instead think about refurbishment of the existing unit along with a possible increase in opening hours.

"We plan some significant changes to ensure that the Post Office and retail business best meets the needs of the people that it serves and very much look forward to working with the new owners of the building.
