LYME Regis is set to receive more than 20 million from the district council to protect it from coastal erosion.

The works, expected to start in spring 2012, would protect roads, public utilities, businesses and homes in the east of the town from erosion and associated ground movement. Around 144 properties could be destroyed within 50 years without the scheme, which is expected to take two years to complete.

West Dorset District Council Leader Robert Gould said: “We are committed to providing long-term security for Lyme Regis.”
