Public meeting called to cement formal link with Barfleur in Normandy

Plans to formally cement the twinning of Lyme Regis with the Normandy town of Barfleur will take a major step forward at a public meeting next month.

Existing members twinning association and anyone interested in joining are being invited to a special meeting at the Guildhall, at 7.30pm on Thursday, March 1.

The meeting will provide an update on progress and also encourage ideas for the future. There will be light refreshments and a raffle

The possibility of visits to Barfleur in May and on Bastille Day – July 14- will be on the agenda.

Plans for a visit by a group from Barfleur later this year will also be discussed.

It is hoped that charters formally setting up links between the towns will be signed during the year.

Chairman of the Lyme Regis group, John Dover, said: “Apart from our members, we would be delighted to see anyone else interested in joining the association at the Guildhall meeting. The evening will provide an opportunity for current and prospective members to meet and socialise.

“Apart from individuals we are keen that organisations such as football clubs, schools, the lifeboat service and sailing clubs on both sides of the channel will also get involved.”
