Barfleur link hoping to go from ‘strength to strength’, meeting is told

Nearly six years after it was formed the Lyme Regis/Barfleur Twinning Association hopes to go from strength to strength, the annual meeting was told yesterday (Monday, April 11).

Chairman John Dover reported on the year’s activities with a successful visit to Lyme by a group from the Normandy town, and plans by several members to cross the channel in June to join commemorations of the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. William the Conqueror sailed from Barfleur with his invasion fleet, and the town is planning a weekend of colourful events.

Mr Dover announced that he would be standing down as chairman after four-and-a-half years due to family commitments and his wife Jan would be leaving the committee.

He said: ”I look to hand over to a successor, hopefully in a position to take this great association forward from strength to strength.”

The meeting heard that membership currently stands at 27 and a number of Lyme residents were showing an interest in joining.
