Former BBC presenter Peter Hill will tell the bizarre tale of Dorothy O’Grady
Former BBC presenter Peter Hill is bringing the bizarre tale of Dorothy O’Grady to Lyme Regis U3A next week.
Thought to be a German agent, she was the first woman to be charged with treason in 1940.
She was tried in secret, and condemned to death without giving evidence. The sentence was commuted but she served many years in prison. After her release, Peter Hill interviewed her and examined the files of the case when they were opened.
He will show that Mrs O’Grady could not have been a spy, and will speculate on how the authorities could be fooled by such a woman.
This U3A talk is at 11am on Wednesday, September 14, in Woodmead Halls, with coffee or tea available from 10am.
Admission is free to U3A members, while non-members are encouraged to make a £2 donation towards the talk.
