East Devon driving school Training Wheelz  has been named South West Driving School of the Year.
Led by Kevin Sellwood and Christie Palfrey, Training Wheelz is an independently-run driving school based in East Devon which has been in business since October 2014.
The school provides fully structured driving lessons with clear aims and objectives, using the latest coaching techniques.
When booking a course of lessons, students gain free access to a phone app which allows them to chart their progress, complete a reflective log on their lesson, which also includes giving a tip on a Post-it note to the next learner.
They also get a 48-hour lesson reminder and a free message service with their instructor. Learners also get free access to a theory test web site to help prepare for their theory test
Training Wheelz also trains people to become driving instructors. Currently they have seven people training with them and they are always on the lookout for new trainees to join them.
The Prestige Award judges had this to say in awarding Training Wheelz their 2021 South West Driving School of the Year: “We were impressed by the level of support the driving school provides to students from their first lesson to the moment they pass their test.
“By giving students access to a web-based theory programme after they sign up, they can continue to improve their driving skills between each lesson. What’s more, the highly qualified and knowledgeable instructors are caring, attentive, and patient towards their students, creating a calm and positive environment for them to further develop their driving skills during lessons. Combined with their coaching approach to driving instruction, which encourages students to think for themselves, they ensure the best possible chance for success.”
Kevin has lived in East Devon with his wife since 198 when we moved from London. I was a teacher, re-trained and qualified as a driving instructor in 2007. I am also on the ORDIT register (Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers).
Christie lives with her husband in East Devon and qualified in 2014. Kevin trained her. She is now also an ORDIT registered instructor and trainer. They are both Grade A instructors.
