Man sustains ‘serious arm injury’ after bus collides with cherry picker in Axminster

The road is still blocked as recovery work is carried out, and the Tesco Roundabout, on the town’s western approach, is closed.

A man sustained ‘serious arm injuries’ when a double decker bus collided with a cherry picker he was working on.

The worker fell 20ft onto concrete below as a result of the collision.

The incident happened at 9.45am this morning outside the Post Office in West Street, causing major queues leading to and from Axminster’s town centre.

The road is still blocked as recovery work is carried out, and the Tesco Roundabout, on the town’s western approach, is closed.

Police say fire crews and paramedics are still at the scene.

A spokesperson for bus company FirstGroup said: “We immediately activated our standard incident procedures and despatched a team to support the emergency services with their enquiries and start our own full investigation to understand how this could have happened.

“We hope the injured party makes a swift and full recovery.”

The spokesperson added that there was no damage to the bus and no other injuries to the driver or the passengers.
