Pupils find a tasty way to learn about running a business

YOUNGSTERS from across East Devon got busy in the kitchen yesterday (Thursday) – making and marketing cakes for worthy causes.

Pupils from five local primary schools were at the Axe Valley Community College learning how to mix business with pleasure.

The aim of the day was for pupils to work as a company in teams of six to design, make, package and market a muffin product which could be used to help promote a charity of their choice.

Pupils got an awareness of how products are designed, manufactured and marketed in a business situation and leant that, in order to be successful, they needed to work well as a team.

The day long course, a technology enterprise event, involved three stages:

* Muffin production.

* Package production.

* Marketing and accounting.

Primary schools taking part were from Kilmington, Membury, All Saints, St Mary’s and Axminster.

Judges decided St Mary’s School had produced the best muffin product to promote their chosen charity, with All Saints the runners up.
