Police arrest 48-year-old on suspicion of fraud

A MAN has been arrested in Lyme Regis on suspicion of fraud.

The 48-year-old is being investigated over allegations that he left a Bridport pub without paying a 275 bill.

Police say the man had left the Tiger Inn on Sunday morning but was spotted and detained by the landlord in Lyme Regis later that day.

Community Beat Manager PC Richard Winward said: “He walked the male to the police station, where he was arrested on suspicion of fraud as he had left a false name.

“On the day of his arrest he had also booked into a Lyme Regis B and B using a false name.

“He is currently on police bail so further enquiries can be made.”

PC Winward added that hotel and guest house owners should follow some simple advice to avoid being left out of pocket. This includes getting good identification from a guest when they check in, and a car number which they should personally verify.
