Man dies after fire at Axminster

Victim in his early 40s pronounced dead at the scene

A man has died following a blaze at an Axminster flat.

Fire, ambulance and police were called an address at Bonners Causeway, at 1.55am yesterday (Sunday, April 12).

The fire in the ground floor flat is thought to have started in the kitchen.

A man in his early 40s was removed from property by the fire service. CPR was conducted but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said today (Monday) that next of kin had been traced but they were still awaiting formal identification.

A joint investigation is being carried out by the fire investigator and police to establish the circumstances of the fire.

But the cause is not thought to be suspicious.
