A PAYHEMBURY man was ordered to pay 665 by Central Devon Magistrates' Court after he admitted assaulting a teenager.Robert David Macrae, 49, of Church Lane, entered a late guilty plea to an attack on Daniel Skilling - who was 16 at the time - on May 6 of last year. The court heard his son, Jack, had been punched by Daniel getting off the bus and when Macrae later learned of this he went to Skilling's home address.Prosecuting, Karen Ball said Macrae found Skilling there with his brother and grabbed hold of him by the throat. Skilling was struck to the floor and the next thing he remembered was his mother telling him to get into the house. He reported swelling of a cheek and claimed for compensation.Defending, Steven Nunn said there had been a history of complaints and Macrae had tried to go via the authorities to deal with the issues. He said: "When he went out his intention was to make contact with Daniel's mother and have it out with her about his continuing behaviour. However, on arrival, Daniel was in the area. The youngster was rather cocky."He said Macrae snapped but, with hindsight, realised his actions were wrong. He summarised that Macrae was of previous good character and was unlikely to re-offend.Chairman of the bench Paul Farmer said, as a parent himself, he could understand the issues he faced, but that he should have been setting an example. He ordered him to pay 100 compensation to Skilling, 200 prosecution costs and a 15 surcharge, and a 300 fine.
