A man spotted with a bow in Cranbrook was swiftly detained by police - who discovered he was part of a local archery club.
The alarm was raised after the man, who was dressed in camouflage clothing and reportedly in possession of a bow and what looked like a rifle case, shopped at Co-op on Saturday afternoon.
Two police cars and a van were quickly at the scene at 4.55pm after receiving a call from a concerned member of the public.
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Officers located the man outside the Co-op store in Younghayes Road.
“He was initially detained but released shortly afterwards. The man, who is in his 50s and from Cranbrook, was in possession of the bow and a set of arrows due to being part of a local archery club.
“No rifle was found. The call to the police was made in good faith.”
