Deserving winners were crowned at the show.

Hundreds of people flocked to the Feniton Flower Show on August, Saturday 17, which enjoyed a huge turnout. Over 400 people also entered into the show, nearly double the usual number, which led to the show extending into the Feniton Bowling Club grounds.

The children’s class was as popular as ever, with entries including gardens on a plate and creative handmade birthday cards.

The judges were left with headaches when decided the winners, with vouchers were awarded to the deserving victors.

Highlights included John Partridge’s success, as he scooped four awards.

John won the Acland Cup, which is awarded for the most points given in show, the Bolt Cup for the most points in the flowers section, the Countrywide Store voucher for the best vegetable exhibit by an allotment holder and the Burnham Nurseries voucher for the best exhibit in the flowers section.

The Acland Bowl for the runner-up was won by Adam Carnall.

Adam also won the Ted Pyle Cup for the best vegetable collection with Ann Partridge winning the Roberts of Ottery voucher for the best novice vegetable collection.

The Dahlia Cup for the most points in the Dahlia Section was won by the Flower Show President, 95 year old Ted Pyle, with the Sidmouth Garden Centre voucher for the best entry in this section going to Mike Hawkins.

In the Flower Arranging, the Gardiner Cup for the most points was won by Maggie Pipe who also won the President’s Cup and the Dillys Florists voucher for the best exhibit.

Flower Show Secretary, Les Ley, beat the ladies to take the cup for the most points in the Cookery Section where entries were strong and competition fierce.

The Mary Richards Cup and Mole Valley Farmers voucher for the best exhibit in this section was won by Christine Bishop.

In the Children’s classes, the Junior Cup and a family entry to Escot for the most points (aged under 10) was won by Oliver White.

Gemma Palfrey won the Ted Trim Cup and a family entry to Escot for the most points in the 11-16 age group and also won the Honiton Toy Shop voucher for the best overall entry in the Children’s classes.

Thehandicraft section produced a wide variety of crafts, ranging from knitting and crochets to paintings, photos, greetings cards, with a large entry in the woodcarving class from the highly popular Woodcarving Group that meet regularly at Feniton.

The Eva Reeves Cup for the most points in this section was won by Margaret Imms.

The David Laker Cup for the Best Exhibit in the handicraft class went to Don Conbeer, who entered with a wood carving of the green man.

Maggie Pipe won the Coles of Ottery voucher for the Best Exhibit by a lady in the Handicrafts Section.

A new competition initiated this year, and sponsored by One Man and His Mower, was the Best Garden within Feniton postal area.

The competition was split into two classes, over 100 feet and under 100 feet and was judged during the previous weekend.

Winners of the Large Garden were Mike and Sue Hawkins and of the Small Garden Edward Cox.

The Parish Council awards for the Best Front Garden and Best Allotment, which is a separate competition organised by the Parish Council and judged throughout the year, were won by Mr and Mrs Edwards Cox of Canterbury Close and David Baker, Plot 13 respectively.
