Lifeboat, coastguards and rescue helicopter scour the West Dorset coast

Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat, coastguards and a helicopter were all involved in a search last night (Wednesday, June 24) for a paddle boarder reported to be in trouble off the Dorset coast, at Freshwater.

A member of the public ashore raised the alarm and coastguards from Lyme Regis and West Bay searched the shoreline while the lifeboat swept an area between West Bay and Burton Bradstock about a third of a mile offshore.

Nothing was found and the search was called off after some two hours. The lifeboat was launched at 10.10pm and was stood down by Solent coastguards at 12.20am.
