Pupils learn about the role of their First Citizen and get to see some civic regalia

Teachers and pupils at Chard School were delighted to welcome civic leaders to their assembly recently.

Mayor Garry Shortland and Macebearer, Clive Saunders, went along to meet the children.

Pupils were very interested to learn about the history and role of the First Citizen and see at first hand the ceremonial outfits, including the Mace.

Head teacher Katie Hill said: “The children were fascinated to meet the Mayor and Macebearer and to be able to ask them their own questions.

“Our thanks to Garry Shortland and Clive Saunders for taking the time out of their busy schedules to visit us!”
