Community rallied to bring resident’s suggestion to fruition.
A combined effort by several organisations and individuals in Axminster has provided the town’s Old Courthouse complex with a much-needed facility.
Councillor Andrew Moulding, the Mayor of Axminster, officially opened a disabled toilet at the complex last week.
He was joined by local resident Maureen Arnold, who first suggested the complex could do with such a facility, and Norman Copland, of Axminster Care Service.
Maureen’s suggestion was initially taken up by Axminster Senior Citizens’ Centre and then the care service.
Councillor Moulding said funding for the facility predominantly came from the care service.
He told the Midweek Herald that it was an honour to officially open the toilet.
“It is available to all the users of the complex, including the Senior Citizens’ Centre, the museum, Tourist Information Centre and Arts Cafe,” he said.
