Cllr Gaynor Sedgwick looks forward to 2015 with growing ‘confidence and excitement’.

“As I look back on 2014 and into 2015, it is with growing confidence and excitement.

Our beautiful town has enormous potential, which is starting to be realised.

“During 2014 it has been uplifting to see Seaton bucking the trend with businesses opening, developing and improving. Residents and businesses have invested and improved their properties. We now have a lovely selection of independent businesses, cafes, pubs and restaurants in the town. Businesses have done their bit and it is up to us as residents of Seaton to support them by staying local and shopping locally.

“Last year I visited many of our community groups in Seaton. We have so many unsung heroes who work tirelessly to support and encourage the elderly, disabled and the young, and to facilitate sporting activities. Thank you to all of them.

“Our town hall has been transformed as a entertainment venue by Seaton’s Voice. The Gateway is now an exciting and vibrant entertainment centre, bringing all sorts of entertainment in to the heart of Seaton. The work and dedication of Seaton’s Voice should be applauded.

“I encourage you to visit Seaton Museum also in the town hall, the Curator, Ted Gosling is a wonderful historian who, with his volunteers has lovingly preserved our town’s history.

“One of the most exciting and significant events of 2014 was the start of the build of our new Jurassic Discovery Centre. I am confident that this will add significantly to the regeneration of Seaton.

“Through the work of our town development team Seaton now has new branding, and has organised many events, in particular our monthly Artisan Market, which goes from strength to strength, all of which have helped to create greater footfall and vibrancy in the town.

“Beautiful floral arrangements and parks in Seaton were recognised by South West in Bloom in 2014 when we achieved Silver Gilt Award.

“2015 will bring further changes with housing developments, improved sports and play facilities, mini crazy golf in Seafield Gardens and new play equipment in the Underfleet play park. Seaton Town Council continues to develop plans for seafront enhancement, and further public consultation will continue this year.

“We will continue to provide town bunting and Christmas trees and lights, and keep the town signage and bus shelters clean as well as employing our own dog warden.

“None of this could be achieved without the hard work and support of so many, thank you to East Devon District Council, staff, officers and councillors. Thank you to the community groups in Seaton who really do make a difference to the lives of others.

“Thank you to the staff and councillors of Seaton Town Council who work tirelessly for the benefit of Seaton and its residents.”

On behalf of Seaton Town Council, I wish you a healthy and happy new year.”
