Melting snow and rain causes flooding havoc

SAND bags were at the ready in Wilmington overnight on Monday as torrential rain, coupled with melting snow, sent torrents of water through the village.

SAND bags were at the ready in Wilmington overnight on Monday as torrential rain, coupled with melting snow, sent torrents of water through the village.Residents were taking in sand bags yesterday morning as a winter storm was replaced with sunshine.The Highways Agency had issued a severe weather warning, saying more snow could be on the way. The Environment Agency issued dozens of flood warning for the South West.Trafalgar Way, Axminster, and nearby farmland was flooded on Monday afternoon. Fire crews were called to trouble spots across East Devon to assist with clearing water from properties. Emergency services also worked to prevent accidents.
