Bridport singer is the first to win the prestigious award a second time
WEST Dorset singer PJ Harvey has become the first artist to win the Mercury Music Prize for a second time.
Polly Jean, 41, who hails from Corscombe and was educated in Bridport, took the award at a glittering ceremony at London’s Grosvenor Hotel last night for her album Let England Shake.
She was unable to collect the prize when she won it the first time 10 years ago. She was stuck in a Washington hotel room watching the aftermath of the terrorist attack on the Pentagon.
She has said that the events of 9/11 had influenced her most recent album which drew on the horrors of modern conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
