MILLWEY Rise Post Office will be axed, Post Office Limited confirmed today (Monday).A concerted effort by local councillors and residents failed to get the branch taken off a county-wide closure list. However, Post Office Limited says it may launch a new, different service at the same location - dependent on a contractural agreement.A spokesperson said: "It may not be possible for any alternative outlet to be established."As such a service would be provided on a trial basis, we will be looking at its performance and usage to determine whether it should remain in the longer term and, therefore, it may not be established permanently."Terry Fisher, who runs the post office from Millwey Spar, said: "I can't comment until I have looked at the contract. There's an opportunity to do something still, but what else can I say?"It is not what I wanted. I wanted this post office to carry on running as it was - it's what everbody wanted. But, I plan to deal with it."Councillor John Jeffery told the Herald: "The fight must go on to keep it going."It's definitely a viable business and a lot of money has been spent there."It's got diabled facilities, a cash machine; it's got everything going for it on the biggest single estate in the whole of East Devon. We are going into round two."OFFWELL Post Office near Honiton is also to close, Post Office Limited told the Herald.
