Funding boost for early education for disadvantaged families.

Toddlers from disadvantaged backgrounds in Devon are to receive free early education opportunities thanks to a cash boost from Devon County Council.

The Government has announced plans to extend early education funding over the next three years to include disadvantaged families with two-year-olds.

The county council has currently secured additional funding for 2012-13 to allow for 643 places to be made available.

Devon’s programme, 2gether, works by referring families who may be eligible for a place to their local Children’s Centre, who will help complete an application with parents and find the appropriate childcare as well as offer additional family support.

Councillor Andrea Davis, Devon County Council’s cabinet member for Children, Health and Wellbeing, said: “This additional funding for some of our most vulnerable families in Devon could have a significant impact on the life chances of these young children.”
