Nominations are still pouring in for the Healthcare Hero Awards 2012.

Run by the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust in association with the Midweek Herald, the awards scheme aims to recognise unsung NHS employees in East Devon.

The Seaton Home Care Nursing Team has emerged as a frontrunner, with yet more nominations after being featured in last week’s paper.

Honiton’s community matron, Becky Garnsworthy, has also received further nominations.

“They are amazing,” said Jeannie Bowdrey, referring to the home nursing team. “In addition to their professionalism in caring for loved ones nearing the end of their lives, the respect they show towards patient and family alike ensures that dignity is maintained to the highest possible degree.

“It is also important to note that their compassion doesn’t stop when the loved one is lost, as they offer bereavement support in the same thoughtful manner.

“Seaton residents are blessed to have such a team, ever ready and willing to help us through what can often be the darkest days of our lives.

“They are incredible individuals who together make up a remarkable team.”

Martin Potter said: “They really are a fantastic team that constantly go above and beyond what is expected of them.

“They are currently supporting my mum and I have found them always happy to talk through any concerns we may have and always give a re-assuring answer to even the most difficult of questions.”

Louise Harwood said: “The care that they gave my mother-in-law, Gwen, was just wonderful.”

Christopher Richmond said: “Two years after my wife’s death at home, a death made only remotely bearable by their goodness and kindness, all four nurses still find time from their hugely overcrowded schedules to call in on me and offer solace. Bless them all!”

The team has also received further nominations from Jill Winter, Barbara Cumming and Una Wood and family.

Angie Clarke said of Becky Garnsworthy: “Though my husband, Pete, passed away 18 months ago, Becky visited him every week for the last year of his life and he so looked forward to seeing her cheerful smile.

“She always had time to listen, was never in a hurry and was like one of the family.

“She brightened his day.”

Nominations are still being accepted.
