MP Neil Parish joins Carers Week campaign.
Honiton MP Neil Parish has called for better support for carers.
The Tiverton and Honiton MP has teamed up with television presenter Fiona Phillips to support Carers Week which takes place next month and recognises the contribution made by unpaid carers in Devon and throughout the UK.
Mr Parish said: “Thousands of people in Devon sacrifice not only their time, but also their money and their health in order to care for a loved one.
“Together they save this country an incredible £119 billion every year. It’s vital that carers are offered regular breaks from caring and health checks so that they can be supported.”
According to research 47 per cent of unpaid carers said they were made ill by money worries and 45 per cent had been pushed into debt as a result of being an unpaid carer.
