The latest crime figures for Honiton town have shown a drop of more than 50 per cent.

PCSO Steve Mingo told Honiton Town Council last week the total number of recordable crimes for the period of December 18, 2013, to January 13, was 39.

For the same period last year the figure was 82.

These included 10 thefts, five incidents of criminal damage, and one drugs offence.

In addition to these offences there were eight assaults. PCSO Mingo told the meeting that most of the offenders were known to the victims.

There were also two dwelling burglaries and investigations are on ongoing.

PCSO Mingo advised that the neighbourhood policing team would be continuing to monitor speeding in the town after it was flagged up as an area of concern by residents.
