Seniors want to air their views on changes to the NHS.

After being grilled by senior citizens in Honiton about benefit and tax changes, local MP Neil Parish has agreed to attend a second public meeting - this time on the subject of NHS reforms.

Honiton Senior Voice, formerly the Senior Council for Honiton, is hosting the meeting.

It says it expects a big turnout and is looking for a suitable venue. The date of the meeting will be announced nearer the time.

Senior Voice members will be joining a Parliamentary lobby on October 31, calling on the Government to “live up to its promises”.

Tony Simpson, spokesman for Honiton Senior Voice, said: “‘The effect of the banking crisis means the Government has made ordinary people pay the for banks’ debts with cuts in the standard of living, benefits and services.

“Though Mr Parish promised to protect local services such as respite care and maternity, the Bungalow has remained closed for over two years and big cuts are facing health and voluntary services.

“We are very concerned at the appointment of Jeremy Hunt as Health Secretary, since he favours privatisation .

“Seniors tell us they want stability, with the NHS running its own services - not for services to be sold off.

“We hope Mr Parish will not go along with any further cuts and need to know where he stands.”
