LYME Regis will be taking part in the first international Plastic Bag Free day on Saturday, September 12.
LYME Regis will be taking part in the first international Plastic Bag Free day on Saturday, September 12.
And West Dorset MP Oliver Letwin will be attending the event at 9.30am, at the Co-op, Broad Street.
The aim of the day is to help reduce reliance on plastic, and will end with a screening of A Farm for the Future - exploring how food could be produced without dependence on fossil fuels.
Turn Lyme Green is encouraging everyone to bring their own bag when out shopping. Volunteers will be selling cloth bags around town for those who forget.
Candida Blaker, of Turn Lyme Green, said: "If we can all manage without single use carrier bags for a day, then maybe we can develop the habit. We recognise that alternative bags are not the solution to global environmental problems, but they do make a difference."
The film will be shown free at the Masonic Halls (along the alley, beside Lyrindas, Broad Street) at 7.30pm. Refreshments will be available and a post-film discussion will be led by Aranya, local teacher Permaculture Design.
