Neil Parish is given a tour of the new facility at Thomas Whitty House

Axminster’s MP Neil Parish has paid a fact-finding visit to the town’s new heritage centre.

Unable to attend the official launch event, the Member of Parliament for the Tiverton and Honiton Constituency had
asked whether he could take a look at the centre at another
time.

Dr John Church, the chairman of the trustees, was delighted to oblige and gave him a
private tour of Thomas
Whitty House - the original
home of Axminster Carpets. He told him about some of the
exhibits on show at the new centre.

A spokesman for the centre said that Mr Parish was ‘very supportive of the facilities and future plans’.

He added: “The new Axminster Heritage Centre is a wonderful asset for the town and a great attraction for both residents and visitors.”

Axminster Heritage Centre, in Thomas Whitty House,
Silver Street, Axminster, is
open Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, and on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
For more information, call the centre on 01297 639884.
