AN exquisite lace flounce, made in Honiton in 1884, has been purchased by Allhallows Museum from a private dealer.
Made in 1884, under the management of the famous Mrs Fowler, the five yards of lace will go on public display next year.
World famous lacemaker and chairman of the museum Pat Perryman says the exhibit will be one of Allhallows’ top examples of Honiton Lace.
Made for a wedding and featuring the monogram ‘MJF’, the flounce is one of finest examples of Honiton Lace discovered in recent times.
The Crown Imperial Fratilery features birds, passion flowers, grapes and varying sizes of bees.
“It is a yard wide and five yards long,” Mrs Perryman told the Midweek Herald.
“We are certain Mrs Fowler was in charge of the lacemaking, although we do not know who it was made for.”
