Flashing warning beacon mistaken for seafarer’s call for help
MYSTERY lights sparked a coastguard alert at Lyme Regis at around 9pm on Friday night.
A member of the public called 999 to report what they thought was someone trying to send a morse code message from out at sea.
But rescue officers quickly established that the light seen was that of a south cardinal mark, used to warn shipping of hazardous areas. No further action taken.
