Honiton's chamber of commerce and a business owner are currently locked in talks about opening the much-needed outlet close to the town centre.

A new laundrette could open up in Honiton as early as this year.

Honiton’s chamber of commerce and a business owner are currently locked in talks about opening the much-needed outlet close to the town centre.

Although negotiations are still ongoing, the Herald can reveal that an offer has been made on a unit in New Street, adjoining High Street.

Colin Wright, president of the chamber, said: “I am hopeful there will be a laundrette up and running in Honiton very shortly.

“This outlet will be beneficial to visitors and residents alike.

“We are hopeful negotiations will be sorted within the next few weeks.”

As previously reported by the Herald, Honiton was left without any drycleaners or laundrettes after New Street business Courtesy Cleaners closed at the end of last year.

Several interested parties contacted the chamber, but Mr Wright said they were put off by high rental rates.
