Honiton’s new deputy mayor has thrown his support behind the idea that the town could hold its first-ever Pride event in the future.
Councillor Duncan Sheridan-Shaw, who describes himself as a ‘proud LGTBQ’ said people should ‘never say never’ over the notion that the town could hold it first parade, which celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex culture and pride.
Mr Sheridan-Shaw said: “We need to understand what all aspects of our community wants.
“It’s about Honiton becoming up-to-date and inclusive - pushing the boundaries. It’s a good thing!
“Everywhere else has a Pride event and we have as much to be proud of in Honiton as anywhere else does.
“We may not be the dizzying heights of Brighton or London - or even Exeter - but there is no reason an event couldn’t be held here.”
Exmouth is gearing up to hold its Pride celebration, in Manor Gardens on June 30.
The event runs from 11am to 6.30pm.
