Chamber of Commerce to adopt a more informal way of operating
Axminster Chamber of Commerce should operate on a more relaxed basis, members decided at the annual general meeting.
Shane Morgan, re-elected chairman, said he was committed to the organisation moving forward and modernising.
As a result, it was agreed that the way ahead is to meet more informally and enjoy a relaxed networking environment.
Mr Morgan said: “As local businesses interested in the common good of the town, we can discuss local issues of particular concern and act accordingly.
“I hope this will encourage more to join the Axminster Chamber of Commerce. It certainly remains important to us to continue to have a close working relationship with our town council and we will continue to serve on the traffic and management committee and remain a member of the Association of East Devon Chambers of Commerce.
“We will hold a formal annual general meeting, a social gathering around Christmas and two other informal networking style meetings, with a speaker during the year. We can always call an extraordinary meeting at any time if and when required.”
Mr Morgan thanked local business IT Addicts for helping, free of charge, to set up the chamber’s new online service for membership. People can now visit www.axminster.org to join online. Applications can also be picked up from Morgan York Estate Agents or by contacting secretary Joy Raymond on 01297 32036. Costs are £10 for a community member, £20 for a charitable non-profit making organisation, £40 for a sole trader and more for larger concerns.
The new committee also includes Jane Rockett, vice chairman, Jess Brooks treasurer/membership, and Jamie and Bev Love.
