A RETIRED engineering manager has penned a 68-page book charting the lace making career of Honitonian Pat Perryman.

A RETIRED engineering manager has penned a 68-page book charting the lace making career of Honitonian Pat Perryman.Trevor Hitchcok, a volunteer at Allhallows Museum, Honiton, spent 300 hours researching and writing the book, A Honiton Lace Maker - The Pat Perryman Story.The book, published by the museum, was launched during two events at the weekend."The book starts with a broad history, including Pat's childhood," said Mr Hitchcock."It then explains how she came into lace making, which was by accident."Mrs Perryman is world famous for her lace.She made an item for the Queen's Silver Jubilee and provided lace for the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Di.Mrs Perryman, chairman of allhallows Museum, also made the lace jabot and cuffs for the Speaker in the House of Commons.Mr Hitchcock's illustrated book follows her career up to the present day and includes some of her most recent lace creations."It was fun and I enjoyed doing it," he said. "The book launch, held at the museum last Friday, was successful and everybody seemed to enjoy it."Mrs Perryman was able to showcase the book on Saturday when she hosted an afternoon tea for local lace makers.Although she has been a lace maker for 40 years, she has taught the craft for 30 of them and has been involved with Allhallows Museum for 29 years.The book, priced �4,50, is available from the museum. The museum's shop is free to visit.Profits will be donated to the museum.
