DEVON County Council is planning to build a new children's centre in Axminster as part of a £5 million investment across the county. It hopes to increase the total number of centres from 31 to 43 following recent praise from families for existing ones. The centres provide coordinated services and support for children up to five and their families, and expansion is a key plan in the new Devon Children and Young People's Plan, which was launched last week.Devon's executive councillor for children's services, John Smith, said: "There is overwhelming evidence to demonstrate that it's in the early years of a child's life when patterns are set for the future."What happens in those early years can determine the quality of the rest of their lives."Every parent naturally wants the best for their child and we are determined to help and support them in ensuring their children get the best possible start in life."The centres are supported by the Devon's Children's Trust.
