The new chairman of East Devon District Council, Councillor Graham Liverton, completes a family double, as his wife, Councillor Mrs Ann Liverton, was Chairman from 2003 to 2005.Accepting the chairmanship from his predecessor, Councillor Paul Diviani, Mr Liverton said he was humbled, honoured and privileged to serve as EDDC's civic head. Referring to his wife's experience in the job, he said: "I am sure I will be able to call on her support and knowledge." Referring to the Local Government Review, he said he hoped he would not turn out to be EDDC's last chairman.He added: "The young people of the district should be celebrated, encouraged and supported. "We, of course, welcome those who visit our district and those who retire here and we must not spoil the environment for the future. "We are indeed fortunate to live in such a beautiful area. "But whilst protecting the countryside, we must also remember that East Devon has to be worked in and lived in. "As members, we all represent all of East Devon and, regardless of politics, I will represent you all."A number of senior posts changed hands at East Devon District Council's annual meeting, with some fresh faces in key positions and some changes to the committee structure to better reflect the challenges the council faces. Councillor Tony Reed is Vice-Chairman.Councillor Graham Brown is the new Deputy Leader of the Council, succeeding Councillor Ray Franklin. Councillor Miss Sara Randall Johnson remains EDDC's Leader.Councillor Brown also takes over as Portfolio Holder Environment from Councillor Graham Liverton.
