Taste of the West launches the first of its franchise eateries
Taste of the West, the regional food group, has opened its first café in Seaton.
Based at the Jurassic Coast centre it will serve only locally produced food and drink.
The venture is the first of a new franchise that will operate throughout the West Country.
Speaking at the launch on Thursday (May 9) Taste of the West CEO, John Sheaves said: "It's an exciting project which will showcase the very best of the region's food and drink to customers.
"This is an ideal location for us as visitors to the centre and people locally can enjoy wonderful food, knowing that all the suppliers are top-quality and based within the West Country."
Running the new franchise is catering expert Carolyn Bellinger, who grows much of her own produce at her family farm in East Devon.
She said: "It's fantastic to be at the forefront of this new venture. All our food producers are Taste of the West members and that really ensures that the ingredients and produce is top-quality. It's a delight to be cooking and serving such superb ingredients. Many of our suppliers are very local to the café."
Devon Wildlife Trust, which runs Seaton Jurassic, is providing the venue for the café within its state-of-the-art visitor centre.
Spokesman Richard Drysdale said: "We are committed to supporting local businesses and offering the very best food and drink to our visitors."
The café is open to people visiting Seaton Jurassic and also to the general public, serving breakfasts, lunches, snacks and teas. There will also be a programme of special events and evening meals.
The new venture has also created local jobs.
"We have taken on a new full-time chef and new front of house staff," said Carolyn.
"We will be cooking everything from bolognese sauce to homity pies ourselves so the kitchen will be really busy and thriving here. It's a very exciting time."
Taste of the West now plans to roll out the café franchise throughout the South West.
"If you are interested in opening a Taste of the West café in the Westcountry, then please do get in touch," said Mr Sheaves.
