East Devon District Council given more financial freedom to develop it’s housing stock.

A round of cream teas marked the start of a new funding regime for East Devon District Council owned housing.

Members of the council’s housing service joined tenants, elected members and staff to celebrate the occasion.

Starting from April 2012 East Devon Homes, which provides landlord services to district council tenants, will have new financial freedom to allow more flexibility to develop and grow.

District council leader Councillor Paul Diviani said: “This is an exciting development for the council and will lead to significant improvements to the housing services that we can give to our tenants.”

The event was attended by over 70 staff, tenants and councillors.

This has come about as a result of changes to the way the Government deals with local authorities and housing stock.
