HONITON is one step closer to getting an eastern by-pass - now that Devon County Council's executive has agreed to lobby the Government.Plans for the by-pass, supported by Honiton Town Council, could now be prioritised. The Highways Agency and the South West Regional Assembly are also to be lobbied by County Hall in a bid to relieve traffic congestion entering Honiton on the A35. East Devon District Council could be asked to earmark necessary land for the new road.Town councillors are concerned about safety on the A35, particularly in Kings Road and Monkton Road, and Devon County Council has further agreed to put pressure on the Highways Agency to implement measures for pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users, who currently struggle to cross the busy road.Campaigning Kings Road resident Councillor Dianne Morgan has consistently fought for a pedestrian crossing in Kings Road.Devon County Council is also backing town council calls for a reduced speed limit in Kings Road.
