Axe Vale and District Conservation Society funds Borrow Pit panel which details the history and wildlife of the site

Members of Axe Vale and District Conservation Society have been celebrating the installation of a new information board at the Borrow Pit nature reserve.

This interpretation panel gives visitors an insight into the history and wildlife of the site.

With a wonderful map, vibrant illustrations and engaging information, it adds to the quality experience for visitors to this part of Seaton Wetlands.

This is a great place to see birds such as kingfishers, as it has an important area of deep water used for feeding. The site has a pond-dipping platform, seating, a section of easy-access path and this makes it an ideal place to enjoy all year round.

The panel was designed by Mike Hughes and installed by East Devon District Council’s countryside team Tuesday volunteers. A legacy fund from the late Derek Ord-Smith - who was a long serving member of the conservation society - helped pay for the production of the panel.

Martin Drake, chairman of Axe Valley and District Conservation Society (AVDCS), said: “We are really pleased with this new addition to the reserve. It gives clear information and provides a great introduction to the site. Thank you to all those who have been involved in this project and we encourage everyone to come and explore the site.”

The Borrow Pit reserve is managed by AVDCS in partnership with EDDC’s team. It can be found through Hillymead, off Colyford Road, Seaton. The car park is next to the water works. Walk ahead into Seaton Marshes local nature reserve and Borrow Pit is on your left after 100 yards. It’s only a five-minute walk from the Underfleet car park in Seaton.
