ONE of the first duties to be undertaken by the new Mayor of Honiton was to present achievement awards to hardworking students.

Councillor Peter Fleming was joined by Glenn Smith, principal of Honiton Community College, when he handed out certificates and book tokens to young people who have pushed the boat out to improve their studies.

Parents and friends witnessed the presentation, held in the council chamber on Monday last week.

Recipients were: Georgina Panayi, Caitlin Burnett, Janie Wright, Molly Wederell, Jasmine Marchant, Charlotte Harry, Lauren Hole, Ross Bonnetta, Beth Sillitoe and Alice Burnell.
