A NEW reign has begun in Honiton as the town’s new carnival queen and princess start their year in office.

It was a dream come true for Rebecca Deakin and Chloe Broom when they received their crowns from town mayor Vernon Whitlock at Saturday’s official crowning ceremony.

The wet weather didn’t dampen spirits in High Street as crowds gathered to watch.

Both the queen and princess were thrilled to accept their new roles and are looking forward to representing the town on the illuminated carnival circuit.

They were chosen after writing letters to the carnival committee, explaining why they wanted to take on the roles.

The new carnival queen, Rebecca, said: “I am looking forward to being part of the carnivals. I really enjoyed the crowning it made me feel like a princess and I have had lots of support from everybody.”

Carnival princess Chloe, who attends Littletown Primary School, added: “The crowning was really good. I loved wearing my dress it was beautiful and it was nice to see my friends and family watching me.”

Honiton’s new royals will be practising their waves ready for their first engagement at Seaton Carnival next month.
