WORLD famous lace maker Pat Perryman, of Honiton, was in the House of Commons to witness the new Speaker, John Bercow, being dragged to his post.
Mrs Perryman and her daughter, Sue, were guests of Tiverton and Honiton MP Angela Browning.
The irony of her visit coinciding with Mr Bercow's appointment was that she made the Speaker's lace jabot, which he could ditch if he follows through his threat to dispense with some traditions.
Mrs Perryman says she hopes he keeps the jabot.
During her visit to the Commons, Mrs Perryman was granted access to a terrace normally reserved for MPs only.
She is chairman of Allhallows Museum in Honiton and gives lace- making demonstrations both locally and around the world.
